How we work
Dedicated specialists
To prevent being caught up in a whirlwind of operational demands in ship management and losing track of the larger picture thereafter, we have dedicated shore personnel or specialists to take care of details across the entire fleet.
Anticipating and solving problems
With the accumulated experience from handling many ship cycles through the years, ranging from new building to disposal, our team of shore specialists is constantly looking for creative solutions and anticipating problems even before they materialise. They are assigned to focus on the following areas:
- Main Engine Performance (Power output performance fleet wide)
- Lubricant (System oil and cylinder oil consumption vs. liner wear)
- Hull Performance (Paints used against dry docking Intervals)
- Environmental Solutions (Sludge & oily water processing & disposal)
- Security Fittings (Security lighting, surveillance and sensors)
We have also formed working teams to look after new rules and regulations that are being implemented at a furious pace in today's shipping industry.
Fit-for-purpose savings to ship owners
Our dedicated teams of specialists meet these challenges by looking at each key issue that affect cost, as well as new regulations that are constantly being introduced. We also focus on understanding products available in the market and building our capability to lead the market from a users’ perspective, rather than allowing the market to lead us.
Operational optimisation
Closely associated with the practice of analysing statistics, our specialists make recommendations based on collected information from the ship against the industry’s standard.
Creating efficiency and economy
For example, analyses are done on the wear and tear of ship’s components against the need to replace it. Another area of optimisation is performance of the vessel against the overall fleet. This includes monitoring trends in spares usage and reordering in advance to avoid unnecessary downtime. By keeping track of these indices, our specialists monitor the fleet as a whole to help us understand potential problem areas and ways to tackle them. With a huge database of information from years of ship management, ship owners can be assured that our specialists’ recommendations are well founded and reliable.
User-driven maritime information technology
Information Technology (IT) is often heralded as a saving grace for many of today's businesses. However, we have also seen how technology creates heavy financial burdens to many businesses in their blind devotion in harnessing IT to advance their businesses goals.
At NSSPL, we believe that technology is a tool and the process of refining this tool should evolve from user-driven needs rather than keeping up with technology advancement. Practical perspective is our strength, and our experience has given us the ability to understand technology for what it is; knowing what works best and infusing our culture within the processes we create.
With a team of specialists using our organically developed information technology systems to monitor vessels, ship owners will not only enjoy costs savings, but also efficient and effective ship management services.
Growing systems organically
Since the early 80s, we have deployed computers to our vessels and also commissioned and designed our own software - setting the direction from the onset to ensure that hands-on participation of users within the fleet is a key feature of our systems. With our accumulated experience, we were able to benchmark our abilities from a practical standpoint.
Marine IT enshrining work culture
We believe that 60% of our Maritime IT development enshrines our work culture. Human efficiency coupled with IT complementing work processes is our key to low training and retraining time. Organic improvements translate into software systems that sea staff is familiar with.
Reduced overheads for owners
We develop our own customised applications to best fit our operational needs. This way, we do not invest hefty sums of money in MIT, especially so when the software may or may not suit our customised needs. This cost savings is thus passed on to the owners
Low crew disruption
As our system is organically developed to fit our working culture, there is very little learning curve required. This may be compared against other systems that may not be deployed viably because of cost escalations due to heavy shore side support in training and deployment.
Easy access to vessel information
Being in total control of the development and conceptualisation of our MIT Systems, we have the ability to share with our customers modules that reflect the critical nature of shipping.
Assurance of Commitment
In consonance with the policy of providing quality service, high professional standards were set and implemented. These have resulted in NSSPL attaining the ISO 9002 Standard for Ship management and the Document of Compliance to International Safety Management (ISM) Code in 1994. We stand committed to provide our clients a continual quality of service consistent with the highest professional standards in the shipping industry
