The Singapore HR Award 2008
Organized annually by Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI), The Singapore HR Awards 2008 celebrates leading organizations and HR practitioners in their drive for impactful human capital strategies. As one of SHRI's signature events, it serves as an excellent platform to promote and recognize excellence within the HR profession in Singapore by highlighting leading organizational HR practices and HR individuals.
Out of a record of 165 entries from government bodies, private organizations and individuals, and through a rigorous 4-month long assessment by the various judges and inclusive of 3 rounds of discussion and deliberation from members of the judging panel, Neptune Shipmanagement Services (Pte) Ltd (NSSPL) has emerged victorious with two awards! Namely:-

Leading HR Executive Award - Mrs Melinda Chew, the Manager of Fleet Personnel Department in NSSPL, was awarded with the prestigious Leading HR Executive Award. This Award is bestowed upon an individual who demonstrates the ability to communicate and implement innovative HR practices, and who successfully addresses issues of human capital management, who has demonstrated qualities of leadership in the highest professional manner to the benefit of his/her organisation, and in doing so, contributes to the development of people who are closely integrated with business strategy.

This is indeed a proud moment for NSSPL as we are the only Ship management company that has participated and won in such a prestigious event. Being the first shipping company participating, we had contributed a new brand of HR practice unique to the shipping industry and the HR community in Singapore.
“In my nature of work, I deal with all level of people from different countries, background and culture. Training Development Award 2007
Quality is the key to deliver good service
“When you have the best service, people will come to you. Customer will trust and come back to you. You can build a ship in nine months but it takes 10 to 13 years to train a captain.”
Mr Sim Hee Ping, Managing Director
With quality as our focus, NSSPL invested 8 to 10 percent of its total human resource costs into both shore and sea training. Other than holistic training, soft skills like management and counseling are also taught. Behavior-based safety training is the special theme for this year so that safety practices become instinctive for our sea staff. Through our drive and determination in achieving the best quality for our clients, NSSPL was bestowed the prestigious Excellence in Training Development Award in 2007.
ISO 14001 - Environmental Management System
As an environmentally responsible company, we have taken the lead to implement and integrate the ISO 14001 environmental management system into our operation, which we achieved in 2003. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management system. It provides a structured framework for an organisation to manage and control the adverse impact of its activities, products or services on the environment and to achieve and demonstrate sound environmental performance.
"NSSPL has a strong track record in quality and environmental protection. The integrated audit on its safety, quality and environmental policies and practices as a whole was conducted, and we were happy to find that they met, and in many areas, exceeded industry standards."
Mr. John Stansfeld, Lloyd's Register's Asia Director
"With ISO 14001, we have a framework with which to measure and assess our environmental impact, and benchmark and report our progress in lessening any impact we might have on the environment as we conduct our business. At the same time, a strong and effective environmental management programme will allow us to gain efficiencies from streamlining and improving our operational processes. So this is positive for the environment, the company and our customers."
Mr. Lim Tau Kok, General Manager
First fleet in Singapore to achieve ISPS code
31 APL vessels certified compliant
On 8th March, 2004, NSSPL was awarded for its landmark achievement of being certified in full compliance of ISPS Code. This makes us the first Singapore ship management company - and among the first in the world - to have its entire fleet certified in compliance with the rigorous International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. NSSPL-managed container ship, MV Jurong Bebaru, also become the first ship in Singapore to be certified in compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code by Lloyd's Register.
"I am very pleased that NSSPL has shown such a responsible and forward-thinking attitude towards the implementation of the ISPS code. By ensuring the certification of its fleet well ahead of the deadline imposed by the Singapore authority and IMO, they have demonstrated their commitment to the safety and security of their ships and crew which is to be highly commended, and placed themselves at the forefront of the industry here in Singapore,"
Jerry Goodwin, Lloyd's Register
